Fundraising for the Christian Primary School in Odesa, Ukraine

KONSTANTIN ABOVIAN

I am Nataliia Abovian, mother of Konstantin Abovian the 9th grader of the Adventist secondary school "DiyeSlovo in Odesa”. I am a teacher and I have 23 years of work experience, but almost all this time I was working in a state educational institution. In 2023 my son Kostiantyn and I moved to Odesa because the Adventist school needed teachers. So I became a teacher at the Adventist school "DiyeSlovo in Odesa”. I understand the value and uniqueness of the Adventist education. Since that time, my son Kostiantyn had the opportunity to receive education in this school, where the environment and atmosphere contribute to the formation of Christian values. Where every person is respected, where in solving conflict situations the perpetrator is not humiliated, where they prayerfully look for a way out and call for reconciliation. Where boys and girls are friends, and they also learn how to build their relationship with God, where love is not only a word, but an action. My son, elder daughter and I live in Odesa in a rented flat. Due to the war in Ukraine, my husband cannot change his place of residence, and he is temporarily living in another region of the country. His earnings are now less than the minimum wage, so he can’t help us financially. In this situation, I am responsible for all expenses such as accommodation, food, and school fees for my son.

For now, I cannot pay the full monthly amount of 6000 UAH (≈146$) for my son's education in our school. I am able to pay only 3000 UAH (≈73$). I would be truly grateful for your support, which will enable my son Kostiantyn to continue his studying at the Adventist school.

School "DieSlovo in Odesa"

Appeal of the Principal

Dear friends!

We thank God for the opportunity to serve Him together in this difficult time, when our territory has become the epicenter of suffering, anxiety and hope for quick liberation.

The Adventist school in Odesa is going through serious trials and needs your help. We rely entirely on God, but He has also commissioned us to support His cause through our faithfulness, dedication, and sacrifice.

Many parents who previously did not know our Church are now approaching it through Adventist education, where their children are introduced to Bible truth and God's plan of salvation. However, due to the crisis, these families can cover only part of the education costs.

We cannot offer a discount, as this would jeopardize the ability to pay rent for a school located in an area with many families with children.

We are asking you to help find people who are ready to support these families every month, covering the missing amount.

"We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up.." (Romans 15:1,2).

E. White noted that regular financial assistance to families for the education of their children in Adventist institutions is equivalent to missionary work. Therefore, we are sure that God will richly bless everyone who joins this cause.

May God richly bless you for your devoted heart to Him.

Sincerely,
principal of the Adventist school "DieSlovo in Odesa"
Olesya Vereshchak

How Does School Support Take Place?

For more complete understanding, we provide information on how the school is currently supported at the local level and how its activities are ensured.

PAYMENT FOR EDUCATION FROM PARENTS

First of all, the main income for the school is the monthly payment of parents for their children's education. There are parents who are able to pay the full cost of education, and there are those who can pay partially.

SUPPORT BY CHURCH ORGANIZATIONS

We receive a fixed grant from local churches, the Southern Conference, the Ukrainian Union, and the General Conference, which covers 30% of teacher salaries. The Southern Conference provides significant support despite its financial difficulties and reduced budget due to the difficult situation on the territory, where most of it is occupied. Many members of the church have left the country and stopped sending donations.

ONE-TIME SPONSOR SUPPORT

Thanks to donations, our school was able to survive in the initial stage of its establishment to a large extent. However, this is not a stable part of the support, as it depends on the individual capabilities and wishes of the sponsors.

VOLUNTEER SUPPORT

This is a huge non-financial support from members of local communities, who help prepare the new premises for the school year: furnishing classrooms, cleaning, transporting equipment and much more.

All of the above income and support is not enough to maintain the school, pay rent and utilities. After all, some parents are unable to pay the full cost of their children's education. And children are our main thing. It is for their sake that we carry out the mission of the school. Therefore, we turn to you for regular support, which we sorely lack.
